About Us
Anaskela — anaskelá — is the Greek word for lying flat on your back. It is also what we spent most of our twenties doing on Greek beaches, under hats, listening to the sea. We started this brand because we wanted a towel that could do everything we needed those afternoons to do: pack small, dry fast, feel beautiful, and not cost the planet to produce.
In 2017 the three of us pooled our savings, drove a borrowed van to a textile mill outside Thessaloniki, and asked them if they could weave microfibre cloth from recycled plastic bottles. They could. The first batch was a disaster. The seventeenth batch was Geometria, and we have not looked back.
Our Numbers — Everything we track, we publish
- 184,320 — Plastic bottles diverted from landfill
- 31% — Ocean-bound PET share in our yarn
- 94% — Supplier audit coverage
- 148 — Towels recycled through our take-back scheme in 2025
The People — Who we are
Sofia Dimitriadis runs design and sustainability. She studied textile engineering at NTUA and worked at a Milanese fabric mill before coming home.
Dimitris Angelopoulos handles operations, logistics and the Excel spreadsheet that keeps us awake at night. His background is in food supply chains.
Eleni Papadopoulos runs the storytelling side — the journal, our Instagram, the hundreds of emails we send and receive each week.
We work from a small warehouse-office in Metaxourgeio with a dog called Fasolaki and a kitchen that smells, most Fridays, of something our bookkeeper has baked.
What guides us
- Make Less, Make Better — Small batches, slow drops, long lifespans.
- Publish the Numbers — Transparency means arithmetic, not adjectives.
- Keep It Local — Yarn in Thessaloniki, print in Piraeus, pack in Athens.
- Return What We Can — Every worn-out towel comes back to us for recycling.
